About Us
WideskiesArt is part of the Wideskies Publishing
group and is based in the beautiful leafy countryside of
Dorset, Southern England, UK. Our aim is to exhibit untainted,
unique and original styles, so our galleries offer a new
refreshing experience.
This online art gallery displays
work that will enhance your home interior design or perhaps
your office interior and is particularly suitable as a unique
art gift. You can choose from Lithographic and
open edition Giclée
prints.
Extra large prints or special size prints are available
to order and can be suitable if you require art prints for
commercial premises. Commissioned work is occasionally undertaken
- please e-mail us for
details.
What's it all about?
The name Wideskies was chosen because it is
indicative of our philosophy. We believe that creativity
should be unrestrained. As free as the air, as wide as the
sky. The artwork here tries to capture fragments of ideas
and inspirations, and magnify them in the hope that they
will be a catalyst of a chain of positive thought and energy.
It's about being small and remembering how vivid the sights
and sounds were, and how big everything seemed. It's about
being big and yet feeling insignificant in the massive scale
of things. Wanting and sometimes needing to remember a perspective
that seemed lost. More than anything though, it is about
escaping, allowing yourself the freedom of fantasy. Finding
wings to fly above it all for a while.
Where are we going?
Anywhere we like really. At Wideskies we ignore
the 'rules' that seem to suffocate all creativity. Too many
people with too many opinions about what makes art good or
bad. Too many protocols, too much 'establishment'. To our
delight, many others have appreciated and understood our
philosophy. It doesn't begin and end with art. Our future
projects include the addition of music and poetry. All original,
all honest.
Reach out and touch me.
That's the ultimate goal, whatever the method.
To provide images sound and words that others can relate
to. There's a lot of misery and sadness in this world, but
there's so much simple joy and beauty. It's nice to capture
the positive and share it.
Welcome to our world.
Artist's biography ~ Karen May
Me & my hats ~ the great escape
As
far as being an artist goes, I'm a bit of a peasant. I didn't
go and study art anywhere and I haven't undertaken any exhibitions
or shows (I am thinking about it). My only 'arty' accolade
so far is painting a few commissioned pieces. In fact, I
would not have become a professional artist at all had it
not been for the efforts of some long-suffering, special
people in my life who dragged me out of my floral fantasy
closet and spent a very, very long time persuading me that
it was the right thing to do. I owe them a huge debt of gratitude.
Whilst I'm on the subject of 'Thank you's', I have to say
a heartfelt one to the people who have bought my work and
those who have said some really nice and touching things
about it. You have made me laugh and cry at the same time,
and even though I'm uncomfortable with the exposure I'm getting,
you have made me determined to continue and develop.
What about the hats?
Well, when I'm not wearing one of my creative hats, I'm a
stone cold realist. I don't have any misgivings about our
world, so when it's all a bit too ugly I collect up the bits
of it that I love or hate the most and create an alternative
reality. Like most people, my perspective changes depending
on the situation. I don't always look from the same place.
That's why I change my hats to fit my head.
Dee Dee and me ~ We go back a long
way
Every
so often I stumble across something that takes me back to
my childhood. It could be a sight, a sound or a smell. Quite
often it's watching or listening to children, I find them
so inspiring. They help me to remember how I used to see
the world. They're honest, simple and refreshing. That's
when I paint as Dee Dee, she's childish, but she understands
the vulnerability of little minds. Dee Dee likes to capture
key elements of positive childhood imagery and represent
them in a simple way. She also has a love of the ridiculous.
This is nice ~ Just the eight of
us!
There are many other hats and heads in my life and I'm looking
forward to introducing more of them. They don't all belong
here at Wideskies, but I hope that those who do, will spread
a little happiness.
Thanks everyone,
me too........
