About Our Prints
At WideskiesArt all of our prints are digital
reproductions of original acrylic watercolour paintings. We
strive to maintain superb quality throughout the reproduction
process to give you the closest match to the original painting
as possible.
Our Reproduction Process
1} The
first step in our reproduction process is digital scanning,
we use a very high quality, high end drum scanner which produces
a digital file of exacting clarity and colour.
2} The
file then moves on to print preparation where the file is
scrutinised for colour accuracy. As some colours are
very hard to reproduce colour matching with the original
painting is carried out, if required. This is also the stage
where any text is added to the print border, and the artist
carries out a proofing with the original painting.
3} The
final step in the reproduction process is the printing.
Lithographic Art Prints
Art prints are produced using the lithographic process printed
on Tintoretto Neve 140g/m2 stock,
this has a very similar texture and feel to a quality artists
watercolour paper. We feel the combination of this stock
and the latest 4 colour digital press gives the closest rendition
achievable for litho printing to the original watercolour.
Giclée Art Prints
Our Giclée quality prints are produced on a commercial high
end 8 colour Giclée printer.
The term Giclée is French for "to squirt" and describes
the way ink is deposited on the paper. These printers function
in the same way as a domestic inkjet printer but, they print
up to 60" wide, are highly accurate and use 8 individual
colour pigmented inks for a wide colour gamut and print longevity.
The stock used for these prints is Hahnemühle 310g/m2 rag
which is a textured bright white rag based paper specifically
designed to meet the need of artists using digital reproduction
output. The heavier 310g/m2 paper
provides the weight of an art paper with a smooth calendered
surface, which picks up every detail captured in the scan
of the original painting and produces superb vibrant results.
All Hahnemühle papers are produced in accordance with
DIN6738 and ISO9706 specifications for archive grade paper.
The papers are 100% acid free with a neutral pH.
Canvas Art Prints
Our canvas prints are produced in exactly the same way as our Giclée Art Prints, on a commercial
high end 8 colour Giclée printer using high quality bright white canvas stock. The canvas texture
adds to the presentation of the print and gives the feel of an older painting.
Pigmented Inks
Rather than using a dye based ink dissolved
in water, pigments rely on microscopic pigmented particles
suspended in a solution. As a result, they tend to have more
water resistance with some manufacturers warranting that their
prints will be waterproof, also combined with the correct paper,
longevity and colour fastness is vastly improved over dye based
inks. Additionally, the smaller particle size and lower surface
tension of the solutions used allow for finer droplets and
thus higher resolution.
Framing
The size of our prints for framing purposes are: 20.3 x 25.4 cm (8 x 10 inches)
30.4 x 40.6 cm (12 x 16 inches)
WideskiesArt prints are available unframed. For shipping, WideskiesArt prints will be wrapped in
protective tissue paper, then placed in a very durable shipping tube for protection.
